Last
Week on the tours:
Tiger
Woods once again showed that he is not one to make Sunday charges.
He got himself in contention again but for the second time in a
World Golf Championship event, Darren Clarke came out on top. Clarke
played a beautiful under par round when the challengers were all
hovering around par at the hard and fast Firestone Country Club.
At
the Reno-Tahoe Open for the players who did not qualify for the
WGC tournament, Kirk triplett fired a final round 63 to take the
victory over Tim Herron by three shots. Triplett took home $540,000
for the victory.
How
about former major league pitcher Rick Rhoden on the Champion's
Tour. He led the tournament at one point and ended up tied for fifth
with the likes of Tom Kite and Doug Tewell, and ahead of Hale Irwin
and Ben Crenshaw. Rhoden who has been a veteran of the celebrities
Tour challenged Don Pooley into the back nine before Pooley pulled
ahead for the win. This was only Rhoden's second appearance on this
tour.
On
the LPGA Tour Candy Kung took the victory as she led the Korean
women to five spots in the top ten.

Tip
of the week:
Long
Putts:
The
key on the long putts is always speed. You are rarely going to make
a put of ten feet or more (even the pros make a low percentage of
these), so you want to make sure that you are close to the hole
for the next one. Speed is even more important than line on the
longer putts especially if the break considerably.
People
don't practice long putts enough. A good way to do this is to practice
before your round on the practice green. Stand at one end and putt
balls to the farthest fringe, the goal being to get it as close
to the fringe line as possible. By hitting to the fringe instead
of a target you focus only on the speed. It doesnt hurt to practice
your shorter putts like this as well. You then leave the green to
your round without the possible frustration of missing several putts
on the practice green before your round.
Equipment:
Four Ball Putter at a price you won't believe
Synchron Hot Forged Irons, affordable tour clubs.
Fit and feel are the most important aspects when looking for golf
clubs. Technology can help but not if the clubs do not suit you
or your swing. At Pine Meadow Golf you can get custom fit online
with their custom fit wizard.
Don't
necessarily get caught up in thinking you must have name brand clubs.
Good quality clones are often made in the same factories with the
same materials, can be customized, and are considerably less expensive.
At Pine Meadow Golf you can get drivers that only have different
printing on them, for $49-$99, steel and titanium. You probably
are using a clone computer, which is the same kind of thing. For
a good overview of the differences and the best deals on factory-direct
golf clubs go to Pine
Meadow Golf. These are the clubs I use, and I could any brand.
I
use a driver from PineMeadow and I could use any equipment I want.
Buy a club from them, try it out and if you don't find that it is
as good as any name brand club send it back. They don't get many
returns, and they offer great service to match the low prices.
Testimonial:
"The
service I received after buying the manual was unexpected. Sean
was there to answer all my questions at the drop of an email. My
handicap went from a 14 to an 8 in three months by learning how
to play the golf course instead of being so focussed on how I was
hitting the ball. It is amazing how much my scores can get lower
even though I hit the ball the ball the same as ever."
