The
Week on the tours:
The players
said that the Wachovia Championship had the feel of a major this week.
The big three, Tiger, Phil, and Vijay all made Sunday charges, but it
was Joey Sindelar overtaking third round leader Aaron Oberholser for his
first win in almost fifteen years. This was the third longest period between
wins in the history of the PGA Tour. Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh continued
to be fixtures in the top ten and Tiger Woods showed some signs of coming
back, especially with his putter. Woods made some good putts and just
missed a few others.
On the LPGA
Tour, Se Ri Pak qualified for the Hall of Fame with a 65 to come from
behind and win the Michelob Ultra Open.
Barry Lane
also shot six under on Sunday to win in england on the European Tour.
It was his first win in ten years.
Sixty-eight
year old Bob Charles had a share of the lead going into the final Round
of the Kinko's Classic. Unfortunately he could not put together a good
round on Sunday. Larry Nelson's 67 was enough to take the title.

Tip
of the week:
How
far should each club go?
There is
quite a range for which clubs go which distance depending on skill level
etc. Also higher handicappers tend to hit all clubs over a 7 iron a similar
distance. For instance, many high handicappers may hit a 7 iron 150 yards,
and a three iron only about 160 or 170. I will give you the range that
most golfers should shoot for with a full swing:
Sand wedge 53 to 60 degrees - 50-100 yards
PW - 90-120 yards
9iron - 110-135 yards
8iron - 130-150 yards
7iron - 140-160 yards
6iron - 150-170 yards
5iron - 160-175 yards
4iron - 170-190 yards
3iron - 180-200 yards
5wood - 180- 210 yards
3wood - 200-235yards
Driver - 210-250
The upper range is for longer high handicappers and good amateurs, with
some good players able to hit the woods farther. The pros are at the higher
ranges for this until you get past 7 iron when they start to hit it longer.
Also remember that the pros have very custom clubs, so there lofts might
be different from standard clubs.
If you find
that you are not hitting the longer irons close to the distance above,
it is probably time to start using fairway woods like the 5, 7, and 9
woods. A five woods should be similar to a iron. Seven wood similar to
a 4 or 5 iron, and 9 wood like a six or seven iron.

New
for 2004!
$99.00
Compare with Taylor Made at less than 1/2 price
|
Last
week I told you I have always used Taylor Made drivers. If I had
to worry about cost, I would definitely use this driver. I hit this
club as well as the Taylor Made so I took it to the range and had
others compare. There was not a single person who could tell a difference
in performance. There was some difference in the sound, but other
than that it looks similar, went the same distance, and was as straight.
In fact for me I think I hit this club a little straighter, but
there may be many factors contributing to that.
So
why get a clone over the original? How about half price for the
same materials, often made in the same factories, but with very
little advertising costs. See for yourself, there is a thirty day
playability guarantee.
