Last Week on the tours:

Adam Scott earned his first PGA Tour victory in dominating style over a quality field at the inaugeral Deutche Bank Championship. His lead was never threatened all weekend as scores went pretty low including his. Five under par on Sunday is pretty impressive for a first timer. Tiger managed a gritty top ten finish in spite of some erratic play on Sunday. When was the last time you heard Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus in the top ten on the same weekend?

Jack Nicklaus made a rare appearance in the top ten of the Champion's Tour event tied with some young bucks like Craig Stadler, Hale Irwin, and D.A. Weibring. Tom Watson was the winner by birdying the last hole.

For the second week in a row Candy Kung led five Korean women into the top ten, and registered her second victory in as many weeks.

In Europe, Lee Westwood ended a long absence from the winner's circle with a three stroke victory at the BMW Open. He birdied six of his last eight holes to end an almost three year drought.

In other news, Phil Mickelson tried out for the Toledo Mud Hens hoping to pitch in a pro game. While he showed some promise with the off speed stuff, he could not get to 70mph with the fast ball, so was declined a contract. They did not rule it out for the future if he can get his velocity up.

Quote/Joke of the week:

"The reason the pro tells you to keep your head down is so you can't see him laughing" - Phyllis Diller

Tip of the week:

Increasing Distance:

After going to the section on equipment and looking at your club and ball characteristics, the next thing to do is work on your flexibility. The fitness section can give you great advice on how to do this.

The key to distance is in the resistance you can generate between your hips and shoulders. Larger shoulder to smaller hip turn will generate more distance. A simple way to start this is by making sure your left arm (right arm for lefties) stays straight on the way back. If your arm breaks you lose the coil effect. Only go back as far as you can with keeping the arm straight and work on your flexibility to get a bigger shoulder turn.

Casting the club from the top can reduce distance amoung other things. Make sure you come slowly from the top and keep your wrist angle as long as possible, so you generate your speed at the bottom of the swing. I see too many people taking the club back really slow and then whipping it down from the top losing all their momentum before the get to the ball. Taking it back long is more important than slow. The irony of the golf swing is that you will hit it farther the slower you think you are swinging.

Fit and feel are the most important aspects when looking for golf clubs. Technology can help but not if the clubs do not suit you or your swing. At Pine Meadow Golf you can get custom fit online with their “custom fit wizard”.

Don't necessarily get caught up in thinking you must have name brand clubs. Good quality clones are often made in the same factories with the same materials, can be customized, and are considerably less expensive. At Pine Meadow Golf you can get drivers that only have different printing on them, for $49-$99, steel and titanium. You probably are using a clone computer, which is the same kind of thing. For a good overview of the differences and the best deals on factory-direct golf clubs go to Pine Meadow Golf. These are the clubs I use, and I could any brand.

I use a driver from PineMeadow and I could use any equipment I want. Buy a club from them, try it out and if you don't find that it is as good as any name brand club send it back. They don't get many returns, and they offer great service to match the low prices.

Testimonial:

"The service I received after buying the manual was unexpected. Sean was there to answer all my questions at the drop of an email. My handicap went from a 14 to an 8 in three months by learning how to play the golf course instead of being so focussed on how I was hitting the ball. It is amazing how much my scores can get lower even though I hit the ball the ball the same as ever."

Elliot, Great Britain

Have Arthritis or Joint Pain?

Don't settle for the dangerous side effects of COX-2 inhibitors and NSAIDs. They only treat the pain and do nothing to fight the Arthritis itself. If you or your pet has arthritis, I highly recommend Syn-Flex. The fast-acting high quality liquid formula of Syn-Flex eases your pain, rebuilds your damaged cartilage, protects your joints, and increases mobility. Click here to learn more and get relief from pain. I was unable to work out or play golf without debilitating pain in my shoulders, back, and hips, until Syn-Flex came along. I think it is the best glucosamine/condroitin product on the market.
