My
favorite putting drill:
|
So
many people do not know how to effectively practice their
putting on the practice green. Often we do more harm than
good and lose confidence because of poor practice.
My
favorite drill begins by getting 5 or 6 balls. Pick a line
from about 25 feet away from the hole. Put one ball at the
25 foot range, then move up 5 feet and place another ball.
Continue
moving forward and place the third ball about ten feet away
on the same line. The last 2 or 3 balls should be no more
than 5 feet away, one ball should be 1 foot away and another
always three feet away.

Starting
at the closest ball which you will always get in, knock it in and
then keep moving back along the line until you have hit the farthest
ball. If you miss any of the putts finish them trying to never three
putt.
I did
a little experiment at the local driving range not too long ago.
I had ten golfers of all levels hit putts from 25 and ten feet.
Of the ten, none made the 25 footer and only two made the 10 footer.
Then
working along a different line, I had them do the above drill which
had balls at the 25 and 10 foot mark again. When doing the drill,
three people made the 25 footer and 8 made the ten footer. That's
all the evidence I needed.
This
drill builds confidence and feel, always start close and move back
when on the practice green. To finish before going on the course,
hit a couple short ones again. You don't start your swing practice
with your longest club do you? If so then I am officially reprimanding
you.
